Shereen Rafea | Website Editor

Happy new year. We leave behind a year that has impacted the lives of thousands, and enter a new year that is sure to do the same. You might be reading this website right now because you stumbled upon it randomly, or perhaps you have an interest in human rights? You might even have a specific rights issue in mind. Well you have come to the right place. Welcome to the Journalists for Human Rights Concordia website.

Throughout the course of 2011, jhr have covered diverse human rights related news and themes using print, online, video, radio, photography and social media as mediums.

jhrconcordia.com includes features, news, and opinion pieces that dive into topics such as civil wars, racism, protests, tuition, etc…   It also includes radio and video human rights projects produced by the jhr team and contributors. The media posted has both local (Montreal) related and international related issues. This year, rights media is not over and there are still issues concerning human rights that need our attention. If you want to write a great human rights article, or have an idea you’ve been meaning to tackle, 2012 is the year to do it. “There are no magic answers, no miraculous methods to overcome the problems we face, just the familiar ones: honest search for understanding, education, organization, action that raises the cost of state violence for its perpetrators or that lays the basis for institutional change — and the kind of commitment that will persist despite the temptations of disillusionment, despite many failures and only limited successes, inspired by the hope of a brighter future.” – Noam Chomsky
